Modern Steam Engine, An Elementary Treatise by J. Rose 1887

The full title is infact "Modern Steam Engines: an elementary treatise upon the steam engine, written in plain language; for use in the workshop as well as in the drawing office". It was first published in 1887, so I suppose that the steam engines described are not so modern any more, but then again there had not been a lot of changes to steam engines since then.

Josua Rose wrote quite a few technical books in the late 1800's, and was a successful author. This book comprehensively descibes the wide range of steam engines that were manufactured at that time. All kinds of valves, valve motions, link motions etc. are described. About half the book is devoted to valves and valve gears, the rest illustrates stationary, marine and traction engines in use in 1887, along with thier auxiliary equipment.

There are over 422 illustrations, 8.5" x 11".
