The Last Years of Mill Engine Building by Arnold Throp

cover photo

Stationary Power No. 7

The Author was Formerly Apprentice, Fitter And Outside Erector With Cole, Marchent & Morley Ltd., Engine Builders Bradford.

Covers the last days of the steam engine used to power mills and factories. Included are Compound engines, Uniflow engines, Condesors.

The author was involved in the manufacture of these large piston engines. Slow speed steam engines of up to 3000 hp. The manufacture of these required big machines, like a planer with a 20 foot by 12 foot table, and a rig used to turn a 32 foot 130 ton second motion wheel.

Very interesting record of an industry that now no longer exists.
