The Log Trains of Southern Idaho, A History: The Railroads and logging of Boise Payette Lumber by Jim Witherell, Was $85

No Longer Available

In its prime, the Boise Payette was the big mills, big stumpage, big company towns, big camps and railroad empire that typified the Weyerhaeuser name. It operated its own common carrier. And, in addition, it fostered two more and dominated yet a fourth. These railroads, the Boise Payette's logging lines, and that of competitor Hallack and Howard Lumber, embody the whole of logging railroad history in Southern Idaho.

This book is the chronicle of these railroads, principally focused upon the Boise Payette's common carrier, The Intermountain Railway Company; as adjunct in law and form to the Intermountain, the book also covers the little-known oddity, the Boise and Arrowrock Railroad-the first common carrier railroad owned and operated by the Federal Government.

In spite of its title, then, this work is in fact three histories: the railroads; the logging; and a regional saga in the congeries of companies called Weyerhaeuser.
