This book briefly covers the development of tractors in Australia. The book begins with steam engine manufacturing in Australia, then going to early tractor development in the World before looking at tractors in Australia.

Early horse/tractor comparison is discussed, along with the development of tractor wheels and tyres, and PTO. Also some details of gas producers and Australian tractor Tests are given.

There are chapters devoted to each of the Australian tractor manufacturers, giving brief details on the company history, and some of the tractors manufactured by them.

Many of the lesser known tractor makers are covered, including H.V. McKay, Jelbart, Caldwell Vale, Ronaldson Tippett, Upton, Baldwin, Waltana and many more. Also covered are some of the more popular manufacturers such as McDonald, Howard, Kelly and Lewis, Chamberlain and International Harvester. There are some special imported tractors that are supposed to be made for Australian conditions like Hart-Parr Australian Special, and the Vickers Aussie that are detailed.

This new edition has a selection of colour photographs, and an extra couple of chapters on specialist machines for olives, grapes and broadacre sprayers as well as compact tractors, which includes ride on mowers, Dingo Diggers, etc.
