The General Blacksmith Hand-Forging Technique of the Traditional Country Blacksmith by Malcolm Paine

cover photo

A Book for students and beginners in the craft of blacksmithing and for crafts-people actively involved in the trade.

Malcolm Paine was born in Farnham Surrey, England.

He started blacksmithing when he left school aged fourteen in 1945.

Having left school the week before, he was looking in at the door of the local blacksmith's shop when the smith asked him if he had go a job. The answer was "No", the smith said "Well start tomorrow". And so it was!

This was a general blacksmith's shop, at this time mainly shoeing horses and making ironwork for builders and agricultural purposes.

When the ware ended, Malcolm started doing decorative ornamental ironwork and found this was the type of work he enjoyed most.

Malcolm migrated to Western Australia with his wife and two sons in 1967 where he continued to work in this trade and still has an active interest in blacksmithing.
